Also, remember that imp/imp2 was created in a golden age for 4x games. Most people want steamlined UI and etc, not complexity. is actually very hard to find(from what I have seen).
Another thing, support of such games that are this in depth. So I guess what I am trying to state is this, it would take someone/some company a while to make a proper Imperialism3, I though liked 1 better due to the technology to more recent times, always ran out of stuff to research. SSI went bankrupt I believe and sega/or some other country bought the brand of imperialism, then a few years ago they turned it into freeware, now you can get them on GOG. PON and Ageod's Civil War are on the same game engine which has been used for a number of more recent games, including World War 1 and the Thirty Years war and a new Civil War 2 which you might want to look at. But I still have not played it in a couple of years. After I got a Dell i360 in Dec 2013 with 8 GB memory my turns went down to a more bearable 2 minutes each.
When I was playing on my 2006 era computer my PON turns would take 15 or more minutes Each. Unfortunately even 2 is 17 years old and I am not certain that SSI is even around anymore as a game company. I do think that Imperialism 2 was a lot better than 1.
